A three-sided fireplace insert features glass on three sides: typically a large glass door at the front, along with a smaller glass side section on both the left and right.
A three-sided fireplace provides a magnificent view, which is why it is often referred to as a panoramic fireplace. Since the vast majority of its heat output occurs via radiation through the glass, it is advisable to design the room and arrange furniture accordingly before installation. It can be implemented in both air-heating and water-jacketed versions, though the latter is not recommended because the heat “escaping” through the large glass surfaces prevents efficient heating of the water tank above. As a drawback, the difficulties associated with cleaning the glass can be mentioned, and achieving uniform heat distribution across all surfaces of the firebox is virtually impossible.
